So I’m curious to learn what people are thinking about as they consider mobility management solutions. Is it just for individually liable devices or are you focusing more on general security? What’s your key driver for deploying mobility management solutions?

  • Avatar Image Michael David said 10 months ago:

We’ve recently implemented an MDM and it’s main purpose and driver behind the initiative is to manage all the enterprise apps (for iPads) that are being developed in all our different divisions. While this is it’s main purpose now, I eventually see it managing our entire mobile fleet globally

Michael – Thanks for providing your feedback, but please help me understand. Your company is using a DEVICE management solution to manage APPLICATIONS? Wouldn’t your organization have been better off leveraging a mobile application management solution if you were focused on apps? Does your organization use any of the MDM capabilities of the solution you deployed? What about security? Is this something your organization is looking at?

    Cheers!

Few points that we consider on deploying mobile solutions are:
    • Every customer interaction overlaps with some other departmental work, another process, or business system, if not all
    • It is impossible to build a perfect end-to-end process that connects customers with organizations and all relevant people who touch that process.
    • Top Management decisions depend on reports that are mostly abstract/past data summarized into a report. So for an effective decision to be taken, it is crucial for the information to be presented with great detailing.
    • Decision making hinges on access to the right data. Effort has to be put in to ensure that the access to data is easy and quick thereby accelerating the decision making process.
    • Security in terms of loss of data, misuse of the data are to monitored with stringent policies drafted exclusively for mobility in the organization

“Top Management decisions depend on reports that are mostly abstract/past data summarized into a report.” <—what if you could have real-time BI on your mobile device(s)?

  • Avatar Image AnB_PreludeSys said 9 months, 3 weeks ago:

@Philippe – The BI on the mobile device captures the real time data along with the past data for effective decision making. As we know there is only a very small percentage of problems that are new by itself, most of the problems encountered are experiences of others. When such problems and its solutions are captured, it creates a platform to take efficient decisions. So the balance between real time and past data summarized as a report is the key for the top management in decision making. Hope this has answered your question.

MDM is very much getting into managing the application data on the device – if a company builds their applications in HTML5 with one of the wrappers for the device specific drivers and controls, then get one of the MDM tools to deploy, encrypt and execute remote wipe. They might be able to be much more agile and save cost over the MEAP suites.

Gerald – Candidly, I think you’re mixing a bunch of different (albeit highly overlapping) subjects into one and calling it MDM. MDM solutions are about managing the devices. EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management) includes the MAM, Security, etc. You may be interested in this post:

    Hey all,

I was hoping we could start a discussion leaning around crisis management and enterprise mobility? I am curious to see what experiences people have with implementing a solution for a enterprise which deals with an untimely crisis, for example a utility company.

    Any thoughts?

  • Avatar Image Philippe Winthrop said 9 months ago:

That’s an interesting question. What do you mean exactly by crisis management?
