Is adopting MDM a must before building and deploying enterprise apps to your employees?

  • Avatar Image Harald Gaerttner said 5 months, 3 weeks ago:

I would definately say yes because it influences the whole processes how to handle devices and deployment.

Most MDM’s offer the same functionality but have a different approach in how profiles, certificates etc. are deployed. SO first decide if it fits your processs or build your processes around the MDM before starting to deploy apps.

Good insight Harald. I’m curious to hear how others are approaching this.

Has anyone built and deployed B2E apps BEFORE implementing an MDM solution?

Are companies even considering their mobile app strategy before establishing IT control over the mobile ecosystem via MDM?

You should understand your options before deploying in-house apps. Are you building native apps? Or using a multi-platform building environment? In either case, there are solutions from MAM (Mobile Application Management) and MDM (Mobile Device Management) providers that can help.

There are several options to choose from, including using APIs as part of an SDK (e.g., Apperian), app wrapping (e.g., Mocana), or sandboxing (e.g., MEAPs). The SDK approach is usually a few minutes of work (similar to adding a “Flurry” call), whereas the other approaches require having hardware/software/middleware to implement.
