Announcing The Enterprise Mobility Foundation

Industry Veteran Launches The Enterprise Mobility Foundation To Serve As Vibrant, Global Community Builder for Users and Stewards of Enterprise Mobility

Boston, MA – Apr. 5, 2010 —Former industry analyst and author of the popular blog Enterprise Mobility Matters, Philippe Winthrop, today announced the creation of The Enterprise Mobility Foundation – an independent think tank committed to evangelizing the truth in, and the power of, enterprise mobility.

As Managing Director, Winthrop brings 15 years experience in helping both vendors and end users pragmatically assess IT and Telecom needs and trends.  In this capacity, Philippe will spearhead the initiatives of the Foundation and work to facilitate end-user education on enterprise mobility across the world.

Today’s launch of the Foundation includes the opening of its Forum, the premier community for individuals interested in learning about enterprise mobility.  People can now find blogs, tweets, news, videos and other content on all their favorite enterprise mobility topics in one central hub.   They can also come together to share their experiences and insights around enterprise mobility by participating in discussion forums, joining special interest groups, creating personal blogs, and more, all while accessing unbiased and vendor agnostic thought leadership.

“There are few industries today that are growing and changing as quickly as the world of enterprise mobility.  It is a confusing and daunting task for IT and Line of Business decision makers to navigate those waters,“ said Winthrop.  “By learning and sharing with each other, EMF community members will gain a better understanding of the process by which they can best leverage mobility solutions within their organizations.”

“Market research, while a critical component of the educational process, is just that: one component,” said David Kerr, senior vice president, global wireless practice at Strategy Analytics and Advisory Board member of The Enterprise Mobility Foundation.  “We are excited to be working with The Enterprise Mobility Foundation to help organizations make smarter mobility purchasing decisions.”

A recent study showed that 87% of IT managers believe having a mobile policy, and being able to enforce it, is important to the success of their mobility strategy.  This is why leading enterprise mobility solution providers, including iPass, Sparus Software, Tangoe and Trust Digital, have all chosen to support the efforts of the Foundation because they recognize the need for an independent educational and community resource for people and organizations interested in enterprise mobility.

Individuals interested in learning and sharing their experiences around enterprise mobility are invited to join the Enterprise Mobility Forum at www.theemf.org.  Solution providers are also invited to contact the Enterprise Mobility Foundation to learn how they too can help end-users be better educated around enterprise mobility.

Congratulation Philippe on your launch! This is the right kind of manifesto. IT departments are presented with a new wave of computing and the ability to enable an increasingly mobile workforce. The EMF will provide IT with a forum to discuss these trends, how to make use of them and how to deal with them. The mobile enterprise will be a fascinating and challenging new space, and we all make progress through an open discussion. I look forward to taking part in it.

Philippe – congratulations. Nice work on the launch. Enterprise IT teams are the poor cousins of mobility right now – anything we can collectively do to serve them better will be good for the industry and for business in general. Keeping up with the pace of change we are seeing in our industry is a daunting task so with the ‘no one is smarter than everyone’ adage in mind this is a great initiative. /steven

Congratulations Philippe on the launch of The EMF. With the trend in the consumerization of enterprise IT, which arguably is led by the consumerization of enterprise mobility, the launch of The Foundation and this forum is timely. I look forward to engaging with enterprise users, IT professionals, and vendors alike.
