Well the speculation is now over. Palm and Sprint just announced a few minutes ago that the Pre will be available on June 6 for $199 (on contract) after a $100 mail in rebate. I suggested when the device was announced that this was exactly where the device had to be priced.
This makes a lot of sense to me because the device needs to compete with not only the iPhone (which you can get for that price), but also not be perceived as too expensive as compared to other smartphones. In this case, I firmly believe that Palm and Sprint have priced the device to move. Now let’s get me some of that GSM love!
